HOT OFF THE PRESS:
Introducing… The Tom Fun Orchestra

Raucous 9-piece Cluster-Rock Ensemble To Release Debut Album “You Will Land With A Thud” On January 29 Through Company House Records / EMI

3-song EP Now Available Exclusively Through iTunes

The Tom Fun Orchestra is a nine-piece cluster-rock ensemble from Cape Breton Island that has been impressing music fans and critics alike with their raucous stage presence and high-energy show. Their unconventional lineup of violin, banjo, accordion, trumpet and double bass, hitched to a driving trio of electric guitars and pounding drums, is redefining what people think of as Canada’s East Coast music.g

Tom Fun’s debut album, “You Will Land With A Thud”, is slated for release January 29, 2008 on Company House Records (EMI Music Canada). To pre-launch the album, three songs were recently released exclusively through iTunes. “You Will Land With A Thud – The EP”, features the first single, ‘Watchmaker’, along with ‘Throw Me To The Rats’, and the title track of the album.

The Tom Fun Orchestra is my new favorite band,” says Gordon Gano (the Violent Femmes), who produced the record with platinum-selling partner Warren Bruleigh (the Violent Femmes, Louise Attaque). “I don’t see this as just a first album, it is an impressive musical achievement that warranted the attention of the top people in the business,” Gano continues, referring to Mixing Engineer Phil Palazzola (The New Pornographers) and Mastering Engineer Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, White Stripes).

While the band’s lineup will undoubtedly draw comparisons to indie-rock contemporaries like The Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene, their sound is more reminiscent of The Pogues, Tom Waits and the Clash. The Tom Fun Orchestra comes from a hot-bed of traditional music on the East Coast, but they embody the tradition of playing music rather than playing traditional music. In the process they have created a timeless, unique sound that bridges generational gaps and defies musical clichés.
