Artists who are part of the EMI Music family worldwide also garnered nominations. EMI Music Canada artists Nickelback, Feist, LeAnn Rimes and Tim McGraw were all nominated as well.
Capitol Nashville’s Dierks Bentley had a strong showing with four nominations and tied Tim McGraw for the most nominations from a country music artist, including for Best Country Album, for “Long Trip Alone.” For that album’s title track, he earned a Best Male Country Vocal Performance nomination, and shared a Best Country Song nomination with co-writers Brett Beavers and Steve Bogard. His DVD release, “Live and Loud At The Fillmore” earned Bentley a nod for Best Long Form Music Video. Label mate Keith Urban also earned a Best Male Country Vocal Performance nomination for “Stupid Boy,” from his smash release, “Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing.”
Beastie Boys earned two nominations for “The Mix-Up,” the group’s first-ever full album of all-new instrumental material. The track “Off The Grid” was tapped for a Best Pop Instrumental Performance nomination and the album also earned a nod for Best Pop Instrumental Album. The follow-up to 2004's “To The 5 Boroughs,” “The Mix-Up” features Mike “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Adrock” Horovitz and Adam “MCA” Yauch back on drums, guitar and bass, with able assistance from Keyboard Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz, on 12 brand new wordless, sample-less, scratchless originals.
The Beatles’ “Love” album earned two nominations: Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media and Best Surround Sound Album. “Love” (Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol Records), the stunning soundscape used in the Cirque du Soleil/Beatles collaborative production of the same name at the Mirage in Las Vegas, was created from master tapes at Abbey Road Studios by legendary producer Sir George Martin and his son Giles Martin.
The Chemical Brothers earned two nominations this year, after winning three Grammys in the past decade. Their sixth album, “We Are The Night” was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album, and the first single off that album, "Do It Again" was nominated for Best Dance Recording.
Dave Koz, who has two Gold albums and ten top 5 hits to his credit, earned two nominations this year: Best Pop Instrumental Album for “At The Movies,” a lush, inspired collection of twelve timeless movie themes, and Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “Over The Rainbow,” a track from this album. Also nominated in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category was multiple Grammy winner, Ben Harper. Harper and his band, The Innocent Criminals, who have recorded nine albums together, earned a nod for the track, “PARIS SUNRISE #7” off their release, “Lifeline.” Ben Harper has received 2 previous Grammy nominations and 1 Grammy win. Ben was happy to hear about his nomination while serving jury duty. Other Capitol Music Group artists who earned nominations include Lily Allen, whose certified Gold debut release, “Alright, Still…” earned the UK-based singer/songwriter her first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album. Corinne Bailey Rae earned a nomination for Song of the Year for “Like a Star,” the hit ballad off her multi-platinum-selling, self-titled debut album. This marks the second year in a row that Bailey Rae has been nominated in this category. LCD Soundsytem
