HOT OFF THE PRESS:
THE 6TH ANNUAL GLOBAL DIVAS BENEFIT FOR ST. STEPHEN’S COMMUNITY HOUSE

Presented by Scotiabank Group Hosted by CBC Radio One 99.1 Jane Bunnett and The Spirits of Havana WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008 - GLENN GOULD STUDIO, TORONTO

St. Stephen’s Community House is proud to announce the line-up for their 6th Annual Global Divas benefit concert, taking place on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26th at the Glenn Gould Studio. This year’s concert will once again be hosted by internationally acclaimed jazz virtuoso JANE BUNNETT and her band THE SPIRITS OF HAVANA, and will feature the following four ‘Global Divas’: Juno-nominated Punjabi folk songstress KIRAN AHLUWALIA, Turkish folk singer BRENNA MACCRIMMON, Brazilian Jazz and Bossa Nova star MARIA FARINHA and Zimbabwean vocalist and Soul Influence member UITSILE NDLOVU.

“With committed sponsorship from Scotiabank Group and CBC Radio One 99.1, the 6th annual Global Divas concert provides St. Stephen’s Community House with crucial financial support. Proceeds from this year’s event will help fund our innovative VENUS program, which provides young women from the inner-city with opportunities for leadership development, creative expression, and a safe place with adult support to explore issues that are on every young women’s mind: relationships, body image, careers and sexuality,” says Liane Regendanz, Executive Director, St. Stephen’s Community House.

St. Stephen's Community House is a vital, multi-service social service agency that has been mainly working with the diverse Kensington, Chinatown, Alexander Park and Annex neighbourhoods in downtown West Toronto since 1962. The House addresses the most pressing social issues in these communities by providing a range of services for low-income families, newcomers, at-risk youth, isolated immigrant seniors, people who are unemployed, and those who are homeless.

This year’s concert will be hosted by CBC Radio’s Garvia Bailey, host of Big City, Small World, and will be recorded by CBC Radio for future broadcast.
